Overview

Reason Theory is a rogue counter-faction formed in direct opposition to Destiny's Penance. Unlike its rival organization, which seeks to manipulate or fulfill convergent destiny structures, Reason Theory exists to undermine, destabilize, and ridicule the very concept of inevitability itself.

The faction was founded through a sequence of accidental revelations, interpersonal betrayals, and opportunistic alliances following the collapse of Praxis Verax Affinas. While its members possess wildly different motivations, they share a common operational axis:

Destiny is either a lie — or something worth sabotaging.

Reason Theory operates through asymmetrical tactics, ideological disruption, and selective interference with convergence events and prophetic orchestration.

Founding Context

Reason Theory emerged from the aftermath of Praxis Verax Affinas' collapse and the continued fallout of the Cascade Resonance Event.

The faction's creation began when Ami Hartbreak abandoned PVA, outwardly framing her departure as moral outrage toward Tiala Hartlight's recklessness. In reality, Ami's departure was driven by existential boredom and a desire for more entertaining conflict.

Fortuitous convergence events resulted in Ami encountering Windi Lightfall, leading to the discovery of multiple concealed identities:

  • Windi Lightfall was revealed to be Wentea, the Starlit Dynast.
  • Ami Hartbreak was revealed to be Aran Letale and Heart Sonata.

Their shared discovery that their siblings — Tiala and Claris Quies — had allied to form Destiny's Penance prompted the immediate formation of a counter-organization.

Name Origin

The faction's name is intentionally ironic and partially improvised.

"Well Destiny isn't a real thing. But Reason is."
"Uh huh. And what about the Theory part, Ami?"
"It sounds cool?"

Despite the flippant origin, the name encapsulates the faction's philosophical stance:

  • Destiny represents imposed inevitability.
  • Reason represents personal agency and rejection of prophetic determinism.
  • Theory acknowledges the faction's willingness to operate through experimentation rather than structured doctrine.

Organizational Philosophy

Reason Theory operates under a loose ideological structure centered on:

  • Rejection of predetermined destiny
  • Tactical sabotage of convergence systems
  • Personal autonomy over prophetic obligation
  • Destabilization of hierarchical succession structures
  • Emotional and philosophical irreverence toward cosmic authority

Unlike Destiny's Penance, Reason Theory has no interest in saving or ending the world. Its members act based on personal motivations that incidentally align in opposition to Tiala's ambitions.

Known Membership

Operational Methods

Reason Theory favors asymmetrical engagement strategies including:

  • Sabotage of convergence rituals
  • Intelligence manipulation through identity exposure
  • Artifact theft and relocation
  • Tactical misdirection and theatrical interference
  • Exploitation of emotional and ideological vulnerabilities

The faction intentionally avoids structured warfare or large-scale engagement.

Relationship with Destiny's Penance

Reason Theory operates as the primary ideological and operational counterweight to Destiny's Penance.

Destiny's Penance Reason Theory
Destiny as burden Destiny as joke
Sacrifice as duty Sabotage as liberation
Controlled convergence Chaotic interference
Moral accountability Moral irreverence

The conflict between both factions represents a philosophical war between inevitability and defiance.

Recruitment Methodology

Reason Theory does not actively recruit members. Instead, it accumulates individuals who:

  • Possess personal grievances against destiny manipulation
  • Reject inherited obligations
  • Seek revenge or liberation from convergence structures
  • Exist as anomalies produced by realm instability
⚠ Nexsicon Arc Reveal

Secret Identity Revelations: The formation of Reason Theory was catalyzed by the revelation that Ami Hartbreak was secretly Aran Letale (Heart Sonata) and Windi Lightfall was secretly Wentea Liso (Starlit Dynast). These discoveries occurred following the Cascade Resonance Event.
